KB0ZP RECORD KEEPING UTILITIES - Users Guide
DISTRIBUTION ---
You are encouraged to copy and distribute the shareware versions
of these programs to any and all interested persons. The maximum
charge for this service is to be no greater than $10 to cover the
cost of the disk, copying, and postage & handling.
PUBLIC DOMAIN vs. SHAREWARE ---
These programs are NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN. They ARE SHAREWARE. That is
if you like, and are using, these programs you must pay for them.
The entire package of the KB0ZP CONTEST LOG Programs is only
$25.00. If you obtained these shareware programs from any source
other than the author, the author has received nothing. Even
though I do get some pleasure from programming, the cost is
immense. Your financial help is appreciated. When ordering, don't
forget to include the NAME and CALLSIGN of the purchaser.
REGISTERED MAIL ---
PLEASE - Do not send me registered mail. My PO Box is not where I
live, it is a mail forwarding company. So, it costs me about
$5.00 each to receive your registered mail. It is not worth it.
And, you gain nothing. I don't sign for the letter, the
forwarding company does. It can still be stolen. It can still be
lost. It takes special handling. It gets delayed. PLEASE, don't
send me registered mail. A $5.00 charge will be added if you use
registered mail.
SUGGESTIONS ---
Notify me if you have any suggestions on how these programs may
be improved. Any and all comments are welcome. You do not have to
be a registered user to make suggestions. I will, however, only
answer comments from registered users. If your suggestions are
accepted and they are the first time mentioned, I will send you
an upgraded disk (free of charge) to registered users, including
your modifications as well as all others that have preceeded you.
If your suggestion is lengthy or complicated, a sample program on
a disk would be appreciated. Even this guide is not beyond
improvement.
SOURCE CODE ---
Copies of the original source code are NOT available to any
individual or organization for any reason. So, please don't ask.
WARRANTEES ---
I make no guarantees or warrantees as to the accuracy,
correctness or reliability of these programs. All
responsibilities are borne by the user.
KB0ZP RECORD KEEPING UTILITIES - Users Guide
BACKUP COPY ---
The first thing to do is to make a backup copy of these programs.
Keep the original in a safe place for copying purposes only. Use
your backups in the field or general use.
Place the original disk in Drive A: and use one of the following,
A> DISKCOPY A: B: If you have two floppy drives
A> DISKCOPY A: A: If you have only one floppy drive
A> COPY A:*.* B: If you have two floppy drives

KB0ZP RECORD KEEPING UTILITIES - Users Guide
PURPOSE ---
For the life of me, I can't understand why people write "Record
Keeping" Programs for HAM Radio. All they keep coming up with is
a crude version of a database. Why not use one of the existing
databases and save everybody a lot of work and have a better
product in the end? Let's stop re-inventing the wheel!
These Utilities will give you all the files needed to set up many
different existing databases to handle all the record keeping
needed in HAM Radio. They will also be compatable with the
convert program that is in the KB0ZP PRINT UTILITIES program.
With all of this you can maintain one large database of ALL your
contacts, using the database of your choice. Your everyday
contacts could be logged as you make them. Then the 200 or 500 or
however many contacts you make during a contest can be merged
into the main database electronically. No more retyping of
everything. And, all your contacts are recorded in one place.
WARNING ---
Do not unarc any two programs in the same directory. Some files
have the same name but do not have the same contents. Decide
which database you are going to use and then unarc just that one.
ASSUMPTION ---
With these utilities, I am assuming that you are familiar with
the workings of the specific database you wish to use. Everything
you wish to know should be spelled out in the documentation
accompaning that database.
If you are starting to learn a new database I would suggest that
you start with the latest version in the Buttonware family of
programs. They can be found on most good TBBSs throughout the
country. The name would be PCFILE something.
GETTING STARTED ---
Now that you have selected the database you wish to use, you can
now tailor it to fit your ham radio needs.
If the database you have selected is not supported here, let me
know which one it is, send me a copy of the database program, and
I will add it to the list and replace your disks.

DESCRIPTION OF FILES ---
The record keeping capabilities are only limited by the
capabilities of the database you choose to use. Below, I have
listed the items you may wish to keep track of in your record
keeping chores. These are everything that I believe most HAMS are
interested in. By no means do you have to fill in all the blanks,
but they are there if you need them.
Do not change the length of the items. They must be kept as is or
the convert file in the KB0ZP PRINT UTILITIES PROGRAM will not
coinside with your database.

I also have two other hobbies:
GENEALOGY:
You know, that is where I am tracing my name. I have been doing
this since 1954. But, I really haven't gotten too far.
My surname seems to be very rare. To date, I only know of 5
males, still living, who are under the age of 35. That makes my
family lines very weak. Someday the name may just disappear
altogether.
Yes, I have been to Salt Lake City many times. I have searched
the Allen County Illinois Public Library. And, I have spent many
hours in the New York Public Library.
The name seems to have come from Germany. However, I have some
leads that it might have started in Hungary.
Anyway, would you check your local phonebook, or any phonebook,
and see if you can find anybody with the surname KEBEL? Send a
copy of the page to me and if the person or persons is new to me,
I will send you an updated and registered version of this program
free of charge. I already know of all the KEBELs in Miami, Tampa,
New York, Oconto County - Wisconsin, Napierville - Illinois,
Winnipeg - Canada, Bremen - Germany, Hannover - Germany,
Rochester - New York, Bigfork - Montana, Yuma - Arizona, East St.
Louis - Illinois as well as some others.
********************************************************************
POSTAGE STAMPS:
I would like to trade postage stamps of the world.
They must be in good condition and off paper, seperated by
country.
Send me a minimum of 2000 different world wide stamps (no USA)
and I will return the same amount of different stamps. I will not
send you the exact same stamps you sent me. They will be from a
completely different pile and they may contain some USA.
This will be a very easy way to increase our collections at very
little cost as well as getting rid of a lot of those duplicates
you have been keeping around for years. Only the cost of postage
is involved.
If you wish to trade larger quantities, please write first.
Of course there can be only one trade per person. So, make it as
large as you can.
If you are not a stamp collector, but have a lot of stamps from
QSLs, I would like to make arrangements to obtain them somehow.
